Being a parent can be challenging yet rewarding. No one said raising a child would be easy, but when approached from the perspective of positive parenting, it will be worthwhile. When speaking with your child or dealing with your child problems/ tantrums, be honest with your child, be consistent, and keep your word. All children can benefit from structure, routine, verbal praised and positive attention. All behaviors are form of communications. Children use their behaviors to communicate. Children with challenging behaviors are sending adult/caregiver (parents) the message that something is not right or that their needs/want are not being met.
One of the most important parenting tip is self care. In today's world, most parents are overwhelmed and stressed out. As a parent it's essential to take the time to take care yourself. In order for you to take care of your child and family needs, you have to take the time to practice self care to reduce stress. In therapy with parents, I will work closely with the parents to improve your parenting skills ( setting up reward system and consequence/boundaries, one on one time, time out, role model positive praise/statements, teach how to set up a daily routine and structure) in addition to increasing self care time/activity.
