 What is TRAUMA?

Trauma is life-threating situation event that can cause a lasting impact on the person physiological and psychological well-being  (the dysregulation of nervous system). Trauma is an emotional respond to a stressful event. Trauma is fact of life. Trauma impacts everyone. Both adults and children can experience trauma.  For some people trauma makes them feel helpless in a dangerous world.  The event is a violation of sense safety in the world. It's the time where they feel out of control from their body and feel disconnected from their mind.  Some people can't remember their trauma because memory can be too overwhelming. Children, will an experience a hard time sleeping at night, hard time focusing on school, nightmares, irritability or become aggressive at times.   A person can an experience a lot of mixed emotions after life threatening event. Trauma shows up in our relationship and can it impact our daily life. Trauma shows up in the body. Some individuals experience somatic pain such as (back pain, headache, migraines, muscle spam...) after experiencing/witnessing traumatic event. 

I use TFCBT  model (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to assist client process their trauma. TFCBT is an evidence-based treatment model designed to assigned client in overcoming the negative effects of traumatic experience. TFCBT is short term and can last up to 8-25 sessions.  TFCBT help people who have experienced trauma ways to manage their difficult emotions, modify negative thinking, learn to communicate better, decrease stress, in addition to many to many other things. In addition to TFCBT model I utilize TRM model (Trauma Resilience Model)  where it focuses on self-care, re-starting the nervous system and increase ' " resilience zone".  It is important to find help after experiencing trauma.

Signs of trauma:
-Flashback
-Irritability
-Mood swings
-Feeling of hopelessness, worthlessness
-Suicidal  ideation with or without attempts
-Self harm behaviors
-Confusion
-Dissociation
-Sleep problems ( sleeping too much or waking up with Nightmares)
-Anger
-Difficulty concentration
-Feeling of numbness
-Guilt
-Shame
-Physical pain ( headache, stomach...chronic pain)
-Anxiety
-PTSD symptoms
